4 Themes in Torah Genesis: goodness of Creator and demand for obedience of divine plan Exodus: God’s mercy of deliverance and guarantee to be with His people Leviticus: laws that help us to be God’s holy people Numbers: need for total dedication to God to be successful Deuteronomy: advice for gaining wisdom

5 Interpretation God created us for Himself God gave us Scriptures to help us know love, and serve Him in this world God changes chaos into order and we respond God expects us to know Him and reveals Himself to us through Scriptures, tradition God makes covenants with us and fulfills them even when we are disobedient

6 You must answer any two from the following list 1 ) What do the Genesis stories tell us about God? (Gen 1 and Gen 2) Explain why it does not matter what or whom God created first. 2) What does the Flood story tell us about God? (Gen 6:18-22 and Gen 7:1-3 and Gen 8:15-19) Explain why it does not matter how many animals Noah took. 3) What does the Red Sea story tell us about God? (Ex 13:20; 14:5, 10a, 11, 19, 24, 27b, 28b, 30 and Ex 14:1, 8, 10b, 15, 21a, 26, 27a, 28a, 29) Explain why it does not matter how the people were drowned. 4) What do the “clean” and “unclean” stories tells us about God? (clean and unclean foods Lev 11: 1-47 and sexual relations as found in Lev 18: 1-30). 5) Considering God kept Moses from going into the Promise Land what does this tell us about God? (Deuteronomy 34:5-6)
