2 Ancient History The first model aircraft found to date was unearthed during an Egyptian excavation in 1898, which they dated back to 200 BCE  This model airplane measures 6 inches long and has wings and what is considered today to be the fuselage Ancient Greek philosopher Archytas built a model airplane that was said to have flown approximately 200 meters, or 219 yards  Archytas named this model aircraft “the pigeon” as its design was shaped like a bird and fueled by steam

3 Renaissance History Leonardo Da Vinci, a renaissance philosopher, designed one of the earliest blueprints of a helicopter and an airplane.  His early helicopter model is called the “Aerial Screw,” and is marveled upon for its resemblance to a modern helicopter.

4 The Wright Brothers The first actual flight in an airplane was flown by Wilbur and Orville Wright. Soon after, thousands of children everywhere were building model airplanes.
