1
PLANT & ANIMAL CELLS
2
THE CELL THEORY All living things are composed of cells Cells are the basic unit of structure and function in living organisms. All cells come from preexisting cells
3
NUCLEUS: control center (entering and leaving the cell)
4
Cell Membrane: allows certain things to pass in and out of the cell
5
Cell Wall- protects and supports the plant
6
Ribosomes: responsible for the synthesis of proteins within the cell
7
VACUOLE- A space within the cell generally used by the cell for the storage of food, water, or waste.
8
Chloroplast-uses light to make food in plant cells
9
Endoplasmic Reticulum: moves material around in the cell
10
LYSOSOMES- recycle worn out products
11
Golgi Body: used for packaging and secreting of energy
12
Mitochondria- Powerhouse of the cell-makes energy
13
CENTRIOLE: one of a pair of small cynlindrical cell organelles near the nucleus in animal cells
14
PLANT CELL
16
Animal Cell
17
HOW ARE THE ANIMAL CELL AND PLANT CELL DIFFERENT? Animal cell lacks a cell wall Vacuoles are different Only animal cells have a centriole Only plants have chloroplasts which contain chlorophyll
