The gospel is God’s power to bring about salvation for mankind 1.The reason: in the gospel is revealed God’s plan of salvation 2. The plan: righteousness by faith 3. The righteousness God bestows cannot be obtained by any other means – only through faith Specifically, faith in Christ Jesus The principle of “righteousness by faith” has always existed “The just shall live by faith”

“The just / righteous shall live by faith” 1.The just/righteous “Innocent, guiltless” “Used of him whose way of thinking, feeling, and acting is wholly conformed to the will of God” “Approved by or acceptable to God”

“The just / righteous shall live by faith” 1.The just/righteous 2. Shall live by faith

“The just / righteous shall live by faith” 1.The just/righteous 2. Shall live by faith Shall pass from death to life (shall live) by faith

“The just / righteous shall live by faith” 1.The just/righteous 2. Shall live by faith Shall pass from death to life (shall live) by faith 1. From dead in sin to alive in Christ “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.’” (Jn 11:25)

“The just / righteous shall live by faith” 1.The just/righteous 2. Shall live by faith Shall pass from death to life (shall live) by faith 1. From dead in sin to alive in Christ “You He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins.’” (Eph 2:1)

“The just / righteous shall live by faith” 1.The just/righteous 2. Shall live by faith Shall pass from death to life (shall live) by faith 1. From dead in sin to alive in Christ 2. Faith accomplishes this by compelling one to obey what is set forth in the gospel To repent To confess one’s belief in Christ To be baptized

“The just / righteous shall live by faith” 1.The just/righteous 2. Shall live by faith Shall pass from death to life (shall live) by faith

“The just / righteous shall live by faith” 1.The just/righteous 2. Shall live by faith Shall pass from death to life (shall live) by faith To be governed by, controlled by; faith being the standard and rule by which one lives 1.That which comes from the hearing of God’s word 2.Not the world’s standards; what is popular or politically correct 3.This one walks by faith…lives by faith

“The just / righteous shall live by faith” Sounds good on paper What about the real world? The real world: Hebrews 10:32-39 1.Faith is not limited to what begins the process 2.Faith is what keeps one right with God 3.Faith is what enables one to finish well 4.From beginning to end: “The just shall live by faith”

1.He reminds them of how well they did in those initial days, when it was not easy a.“You endured a great struggle with sufferings” b. “You were made a spectacle…” c. “You joyfully accepted this” 2. How could they endure such with a joyful attitude? a.They could look past the present to what awaited b.They were suffering for righteousness sake 3. And so he pleads…don’t throw it all away a.“Don’t cast away your confidence…” b.Realize that it is “after you have done the will of God that you may receive the promise”

“For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” (Heb 10:37-38) What is the point? The righteous were being oppressed by sinners Be assured that God will bring judgment on them Though relief may not come immediately: “for yet a little while” You’ve got to hang in there – you cannot give up The just, by their faith, will persevere

The Flow into Chapter 11 Understand the nature of this faith under discussion 1.It is what allows you to look beyond the temporary to what lies beyond 2.It is what makes real those things hoped for 3.It is what has you believing that God is: (v.6) In control Aware of what you are going through There to help you True to His word 4. It allows you to serve, sacrifice and suffer if need be

That is why the just, by their faith, shall live: 1.When the ungodly perish, the just shall live 2.When others have faltered, the just remain faithful 3.Possessing a faith: That allows God, through His word and life’s experiences, to mold their character That has complete trust and confidence in God, whatever this life brings That is willing to serve, sacrifice and suffer if that is what God requires That will see you through to the end
