3. Implementation of New Legislation In 2012, Senate file 2284 added new requirements for teacher collaboration (at least 36 hours annually) and teacher peer review. The focus of Teacher Collaboration is on working to improve instruction and, ultimately, student learning. Peer Review is being added to the usual three year teacher evaluation cycle. In the first and second year of the evaluation cycle, a peer group of teachers will engage in reviewing teacher performance.

4. Implications of New Legislation and Standards of Practice Rethink use of professional development time to include teacher collaboration and peer review (PLC, IPDP, Vision Team meetings etc.). Use self-assessment data from the Standards of Practice to guide the professional development needs of staff. Plan will be created by Leadership Cadre.

6. Mission Statement Our mission is to enable Iowa's students who are blind or visually impaired to function as independently as possible in all aspects of life by providing appropriate educational opportunities, resources, and support services.

Providing quality services based on statewide Standards of Practice for students who are blind and visually impaired includes the following: Having a depth of understanding of the core curriculum and expanded core curriculum. (curriculum) Using evidence based instructional strategies to deliver instruction that meets the multiple learning needs of students. (instruction) Using a variety of methods to monitor student learning and adjust instruction based on the results. (assessment) Collaborating with general education and other agency personnel as well as full involvement of parents and families.

8. What are Standards of Practice? Standards of Practice are those best practices that we, collectively at IESBVI, agree should be standard and thus expected of our services across the state. Whether your role is TVI, OMS, Consultant, Regional Director, Superintendent of IESBVI/ISD, or Cabinet member, the expectation is that the Standards of Practice are evident in services provided to students, families, and LEA/AEA staff. The Standards of Practice will insure that a student receiving services anywhere in the state of Iowa will have the same opportunities for learning regardless of their location.
