2 TEKS (5 th Grade Social Studies) 113.7.2 (A) identify the contributions of significant individuals during the revolutionary period, including Thomas Jefferson and George Washington 113.7.2 (B) analyze the causes and effects of events prior to and during the American Revolution such as the Boston Tea Party 113.7.2 (C) summarize the results of the American Revolution, including the establishment of the United States and the origins of U.S. military institutions 113.7.3 (B) summarize the events that led to the creation of the U.S. Constitution

3 Goals for This Study Have the students take part in the “revolutionary road” game.game Research various people, places and events that took place in this part of early American History Show the students a timeline of the war, and have them make one of their own as a project

4 The Effects of the War Discuss and have the students write their own personal constitution for their imaginary country Review the Bill of Rights and their guaranteed freedoms as well as the number of amendments to the Constitution

5 The Important Influences (to list a few) John Adams Thomas Jefferson Ben Franklin George Washington James Madison The Philadelphia Convention The Battle of Yorktown
