Kite Project Sketching and discussing Kites KG1A Highlights-May 15
2
Writing Lists “This is a list of things we need to make kites: We need string, ribbons, plastic, paper, tape, glue and wind.”
3
Making Kites (collaboration, problem solving, sharing ideas, and making theories)
4
Exploring and Sharing Ideas (Exploring with cotton, droppers, and liquid paint) “Look it is all going inside the cotton.” “The cotton is drinking the paint.” “The color stays and the water goes in.”
5
Designing with Marble Tiles
6
Observational Drawing “You have to count the sides.” “It has eight sides.” “All many colors.” (observing closely and paying attention to detail)
7
Discussing a Book about Planets
8
Our Fun Picnic with our MS Buddies

Counting, Comparing, and Matching

We worked with Grade 10 Physics class on a project. The investigation was about calculating the mechanical energy of the children at the top of the slide as well as at the bottom, determine the energy dissipated due to friction, and discuss together the different factors that affect the results. Our students were given the opportunity to read the scale when measuring their mass, use a stopwatch, and read the time displayed. Our KG1A students made connections to water slides, kites, and parachutes. “ I go fast when there is water on the slide.” “It is slipping and slippery with water.” “It is like when the kite goes down from up. It goes down very fast.” “The parachute also go faster when it goes down.” It was a great learning experience for both. Working with Grade 10
11
Using the Scale
12
Measuring the Slides We measured the height and the length of the slides.
13
Using a Stop Watch We used a stop watch to measure the time needed to go down the slide.
14
Reading the Time Displayed
15
Discussing the Results
16
Castles Project It started at the overhead projector, when children were exploring and building with colored magnets.
17
Building castles was extended to the Blocks area. Jad T. and Jad K. planned together to use the blocks and build a castle. They shared thoughts, constructed theories, and sketched designs. They implemented their plan using collaboration, discussion, and creativity skills.
18
Nour, Celina, and Kira joined their friends and added more thoughts and theories. They expanded on the initial design and included colored tubes in their representation.
19
Revisiting the experience and making a book about it During Reflection Time, the children sorted printed out pictures of them while building the castle, and each child worked on making a book about this experience to share with friends and family.
