1 Ethics Philosophy of the tutor program Do’s and Don'ts of tutoring Sexual Harassment Policies and Procedures Plagiarism

2 1. Respect, without judgment, your tutees personal dignity. 2. Assist all tutees in building personal self- confidence at every opportunity. 3. Be a good role model for all my tutee and all other constituents. 4. I will not impose my personal value system or lifestyle on my tutee or constituents. 5. Help my tutees by using the Socratic method of tutoring at all times.

3 Guidelines for the Discovery process: ◦ Identify your personality and tutoring. ◦ Signals: listen closely to your instincts. ◦ Judgment: Be kind to yourself and your tutees, this is a learning moment for you both. ◦ Honesty: Essential component, simply put admitting you don’t have and answer is OK.

4 Intention Statement guidelines: o Make your intentions positive. o Use measurable criteria for success. o Listen to your instincts and follow them. o Set time lines that are reasonable but keep you on task.

5  Remember the 12 step cycle  Relax/respectful/fun/patient  Establish rapport and be sensitive  Develop your “tool” of Socratic questions  Bloom’s Taxonomy and other tools  Be honest/have confidence  Stress learner independence  Learning Styles and Strategies  Keep good records

6  Please do not be to quick to judge.  Note CAPS: DO NOT DO THEIR HOMEWORK!  Again, note CAPS: DO NOT RE-TEACH!!!!!  Do not hesitate to say you do not know the correct answer. Find out and share.  Please do not be late.  Be carful with personal interactions and be respectful of everyone space

7  First review the note worthy laws.  Second, policy and procedure dictates review of the four page handout by reading ALL OF THE MATERIAL.  Complete, sign and turn in the form stating you have read and understand MCC Policies and Procedures.  Be sure you understand the definitions of the various harassment levels.
