1 ECE 1010 - Project 1 Overview

2 Project Description The aim of this project is to design a robot that moves along a given path, from the Start point, towards the Finish line. The thick black line acts as the guide for the robot to follow. As an optional element to the project, after reaching the finish line, the robot should turn around, and go back along the path it came to the starting point. Robots will be judged on smoothness of journey and design. It is the students responsibility to make sure that the Handyboard is fully charged. Each group will have one chance to demonstrate their project to the judges. Therefore, fully test your project before demonstration.

3 Project Description As a secondary objective, have the robot perform a U-turn at the finish line and go back along the path to the starting point. This can be carried out in many ways, here is one example: –Phase 1: BOTH light sensors sense a black line (i.e. the finish line). –Phase 2: The robot stops moving forward and starts to rotate in either direction. –Phase 3: While rotating, the robot notes when its first sensor senses the black line; it CONTINUES rotating. –Phase 4: When the second sensor detects the black line, the rotation is complete and the robot moves along the line in the same way as before until it reaches the start line. Alternative: Rather than turn around, the robot can “backup” through the entire course (more sensors may be necessary for this option).
