13

14 HW out to be checked in first min. Go over.
Tuesday 10/6 HW out to be checked in first min. Go over. Sharing book with partner: p. 88, Q #1-11 Copy statement. Sketch situation correctly. Write True or False. If False, explain why. Return tests. Got Khan Academy?...

15

16 Wednesday 10/7 Planner out & open to today out to be checked in first min. Discuss good planners. 10 min to go over p.88 Qs All team partners should be ready to explain any Q. Pop quiz, Lines & Angles.

17

18 Thursday 10/8 HW out to be checked in first min. On graph paper in math notebook, use the straight edge on your protractor to draw two lines crossing. Make it BIG; fill half the page. Measure and label all four angles formed at the intersection. Discuss with partners what you notice about adjacent and vertical angle pairs when lines intersect. Write your conclusion.

19 Thursday 10/8 Agenda: DoNow: Draw & discuss Vertical Angles. Quickly go over HW. (Finish p.88 statements 1-11 share-outs.) Draw & discuss angles formed by transversal. Pop quiz/grade quiz.

20 Thursday 10/8 On graph paper, Draw two parallel lines. Draw a transversal through these. Measure and label all eight angles. What types of angles are formed? Discuss what you notice. Write down observations.

21

22 Monday 10/12 HW open for check. Do Now: Teams fill in missing info on board from Thursday’s activity. Review observations from last class about angles formed by intersecting lines. Go over HW.

23 1st place team explains to class for triple EC.
Monday 10/12 Explore: Solve angles problem, p. 140 # 26 with partners. Sketch with symbols. List the missing angle measures alphabetically. Extra Credit for 1st, 2nd, 3rd team. 1st place team explains to class for triple EC.

24

25 Tuesday 10/13 Do Now: Got Updated Planner? Extra Credit opportunity & discussion (from Mon) Notes: Conjecture → (Proof) → Theorem Notes: Five Angle Conjectures Mini-worksheets – check your partners

26 A conjecture is an educated guess, based on a pattern you see in data or observations.
A conjecture is similar to a hypothesis. A big part of Geometry is discovering conjectures through experimenting with straightedge and compass. The other part is proving these conjectures with logical arguments, turning them into theorems. We will see and use several types of proofs.

27 5 Angle Conjectures Linear Pair Conjecture (LPC) Vertical Angle Conjecture (VAC) Corresponding Angles Conjecture (CAC) Alternate Interior Angle Conjecture (AIAC) Alternate Exterior Angle Conjecture (AEAC)

28 Linear Pair Conjecture
A Pair of Linear Angles are: Linear Pair Conjecture If two angles are linear (share vertex & middle side, & outside rays form a line), then they are _________ .

29 Linear Pair Conjecture
A Pair of Linear Angles are Supplementary & Adjacent: Linear Pair Conjecture If two angles are linear, then they are supplementary (add to 180o). (Write in notes.)

30 Vertical Angle Conjecture
If two angles are vertical (opposite across line intersection, & share only a vertex), then they are _________ .

31 Vertical Angle Conjecture
If two angles are vertical, then they are congruent . (Write this in notes.)

32 Read Investigation 1 on page 126.
Write the Corresponding Angles (CA) Conjecture as a full sentence in your notes. Discuss with partners first. Then draw a diagram. Write the Alternate Interior Angles (AIA) Conjecture as a full sentence in your notes. Draw a diagram with markings to show this. Write the Alternate Exterior Angles (AEA) Conjecture as a full sentence in your notes. Draw a diagram with markings to show this.

33 Special Angle Conjectures (in notes)
Corresponding Angle Conjecture CA’s are congruent. Alternate Interior Angle Conjecture AIA’s are congruent. Alternate Exterior Angle Conjecture AEA’s are congruent.

34 Special Angle Conjectures (in notes)
These three conjectures are only true when a transversal crosses two parallel lines. Corresponding Angle Conjecture Alternate Interior Angle Conjecture Alternate Exterior Angle Conjecture “Exterior” = outside parallels “Interior” = between parallels “Alternate” = both sides of transversal “Concurrent” = same side of transversal

35

36 Wednesday/Thursday 10/14-15
Do Now: HW out. Mini-worksheets – When done, pass clockwise to your partner who will check it. Discuss disagreements. Then get pass to a third partner for final check. Then raise hand for a group check. Go over HW. Extra Credit Chain Reaction Game?

37

38 Thursday 10/15 Do Now: Grab a textbook for every two people. Turn to p. 196, question 64. Quickly sketch the diagram in your notebook, with markings. Solve for missing angles a – h. Next to each angle, write the reason you knew it: Linear Pair, Vertical Angles, Corresponding Angles, Alternate Interior Angles, Alternate Exterior Angles.

39

40 Friday 10/16 Do Now: Grab a textbook for every two people.

41

42 Monday 10/19 Get out notebook, compass & protractor. Introduce self to new partners. Notes on basic compass & straight-edge constructions. See Unit 2b PowerPoint. HW out for quick check.

43 Notes on basic constructions.
Mon 10/19 – Tu 10/20 Notes on basic constructions. See Unit 2b Constructions PowerPoint on class web page. Teacher will demonstrate each construction several times & show video. Take notes.

44

45 Wed 10/21 – Th 10/22 Complete Construction Skills Handout with compass and straightedge. Only use you protractor as a straightedge. Show all ‘work lines & arcs’.

46

47 Wednesday & Thursday 10/21-22
Complete two sets of Construction Practice worksheets with your team. Each person completes one, puts their name at top. Pass clockwise, partner checks critically. Discuss & improve. Get third partner to do a final check. Show Mr. Sidman for a single team grade.

48

49 Friday 10/23 Log in to laptop.
‘Geometric Constructions Practice’ due at time on board. = ‘Team pop quiz.’ You are encouraged to open “2b Geometric Constructions PowerPoint.” Watch each video link with partner(s), then complete each construction on handout. Watch without sound, or use headphones. Three HW assignments will be graded Monday during normal-length class. Here after school for HW help.

50

51 Monday 10/26 – Tuesday 10/27 Students needing more practice with basic constructions will work together using handouts, videos and Mr. Sidman’s help. Students who mastered basic constructions last week, will use videos to learn how use a compass & straight-edge to construct rigid transformations: Reflection Translation Rotation

52

53 Wednesday 10/28 Solo Pop Quiz - Lines & Angles Unit Review Sketch geometric situations using word description. Solve angle problems using LPC, VPC, CAC, AIAC, AEAC. Construct rigid transformations with compass & straight-edge.

54

55 Complete Constructions Handout
Complete Constructions Handout. (30 min) Bring up your answers for credit. Students with correct answers will construct on board. (20 min) Test tomorrow. Using Lines & Angles Conjectures to solve problems and sketch them correctly. Using compass & straightedge to build constructions.
