5 WACE Requirements 2012 Breadth and Depth Requirement Complete a minimum of 20 course units or the equivalent. The 20 course units must include at least: four course units from English, Literature and/or English as an Additional Language/Dialect, studied during Year 11 and Year 12 (at least two of these units must be completed in Year 12) One pair of course units from each of List A (arts/languages/social sciences) and List B (mathematics/science/technology) completed in Year 12.

6 WACE Requirements 2012 Achievement standard requirement: Achieve a C grade average or better across the best 16 course units of which at least 8 must be completed in Year 12. Endorsed programs and/or VET credit transfer (stand alone) can reduce the required number of course units by up to 6 units.

7 WACE Requirements 2012 English language competence requirement: Achieve a C grade or better in any Stage 1 or higher course unit from English, Literature and/or English as an Additional Language/Dialect For students who have not achieved a C grade in one of their English, Literature and/or or English as an Additional Language/Dialect course units, schools will need to compare a selection of the student’s work with the work samples to verify the student has demonstrated the required standard.

What are the requirements (Selection Criteria) for TAFE? TAFE - Consider TAFE one day a week now HAVE A CAREER GOAL - helps you focus as you know what you are aiming for as a TER score.

15 Requirements for TAFE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS These are set of generic competency statements covering literacy (reading, writing, oral communication) and numeracy. School course achievements (ie grades) will be able to be used to demonstrate these competencies. Applicants will not be accepted into any course unless they meet the entry requirements.

16 Requirements for TAFE THE “SKILLS CALCULATOR” Located on the website http://tasonline.tafe.wa.edu.au/Reckoner/Default.aspx Students enter achieved Year 10 / 11 grades or anticipated Year 12 grades The “Skills Calculator” lists TAFE Courses where Entry requirements are met.

17 Requirements for TAFE Approximately 30% of TAFE courses will also publish SELECTION CRITERIA These are used to rank eligible applicants competing for entry into a popular TAFE course. They include: school marks work experience industry involvement other employment background previous TAFE studies & qualifications

18 TAFE COURSES AND UNIVERSITY ENTRY Completion of a Certificate IV TAFE Course satisfies “Minimum Entry Requirements” for ECU Completion of a Diploma or Advanced Diploma TAFE Course satisfies “Entry Requirements” for many ECU Courses and carries “Advanced Standing” in specified Uni Courses
