Geography Fieldwork Analysis By: Group 3 (2O4) Members: Tan Jian Yan Thung Chee Tuck Atticus Tay Brandon Wu

Hypothesis Areas with concrete ground are hotter than non- concrete areas

Sites Temperature (15cm above ground) [ c] Temperature (1.5m above ground) [ ºC] Relative Humidity [%] Wind Speed [km/h] Description of surroundings A31.631.557.21.6 Mild wind, unsheltered, some cloud cover, a little sunny B31.5 56.61.9 Unsheltered, mild wind, a little cloud cover, a little sunny C30.430.6598.5 Sheltered, strong winds, not under direct sunlight D31.331.556.513 Unsheltered, Very strong winds, a little cloud cover, a little sunny E32.532.8542 Unsheltered, mild wind, a little sunny, F32.53256 7.2 Unsheltered, strong wind, a little sunny, a little cloud cover G 31.3 57.73.9 Building blocking some sunlight, mild wind, a little cloud cover Average Temperature (1.5m above ground) :31.6 ºC

Site A (Top floor of multistorey carpark) We expected the temperature at the multistorey carpark to be the highest, but unexpectedly, the temperature is lower than the average. There are several possible reasons for this: 1. Cloud cover( clouds block the sun's rays) 2. Some vegetation ( Trees)

Site B (Garden outside printing centre) Reasons for low temperature: 1. Lots of plants being grown here 2. Cloud cover

Site C (Globe at Clock Tower) Temperature is much lower than average Reasons: 1. Sheltered area, not under direct sunlight 2. Wind was very strong 3. Marble flooring (marble is a good conductor of heat like metals, so it can conduct heat very well)

Site D (Terraces) Although it is unsheltered, there was some cloud cover and some trees that lowered the temperature. Surprisingly, wind was the strongest here.

Site E (Field) Temperature was the highest Reasons: 1.Under direct sunlight 2.Grass did not do much to reduce the temperature of the surroundings Strangely, there was only mild wind here, unlike the terraces. Perhaps it was because we measured the wind speed at the terraces a few minutes after we measure the wind speed at the field.

Site F (Running Track) Although the wind here is very strong, the temperature is very high. This because: 1. The rubber track absorbs heat and was exposed to direct sunlight 2. Unsheltered and directly exposed to the sun.

Site G (Fountain area outside General Office) It was very cool here, mainly because: 1. There was some shelter 2.This area is near a water body, so the temperature would be slightly lower than normal

Thank You!
