3 what? n collection of –open access electronic journal –institutional repositories n a collaborative project –consortium of electronic publishers

4 who? n scholars n editorial boards n academic institutions

5 why? n to improve scientific communication you need something in between the book and the letter n to maximize research impact by maximizing research access n social responsibility of universities for availability and use of their researches

6 data? what data? n journals n articles n theses n lectures n conference materials n multimedia documents n surveys n reports n e-books

7 how big? n all branches of social sciences and humanities or even more n all levels of higher education n very broadly defined n all over Ukraine n this is best to be done on a per- discipline basis

8 evaluative data n abstract views n downloads n citation counts n collection membership evaluation n growing emphasis on communication n growing emphasis on quality assessment

9 business model n economics: –not for profit –open access n organization: –network, not hierarchical –strong input from customers –no central branding

10 network organization n Back offices –service providers n Front offices –intermediate to academic community (scholars, editorial boards, academic institutions) n Co-ordinator: –recruiting new offices –stimulating synergy between front offices –regulating the dynamics within the network
