Section 1- reducing fractions, Part to whole fractions, part to whole fractions Section 2 -mixed numbers, Division and reciprocals with fractions, multiplication with fractions Section 3- Adding and Subtracting with fractions

First you need to find a common factor Then divide the numerator and the denominator by the common factor

Hannah had 4 dogs and Madison Erb has 6 dogs. Hannah has 4 black dogs and Madison Erb has 6 black dogs What is the reduced fraction of Madison’s and Hannah’s dogs?

Hannah- 4 black dogs 4/10 total dogs 4/10 divided by 2 (numerator and denominator) to get 2/5 Madison Erb- 6 black dogs 6/10 total dogs 6/10 divided by 2 (both numerator and denominator) 3/5

 Fractions are part to whole because the denominator is the total. Also, is the same as a whole. The numerator is the part which is how many is out of the whole.

Section 2

To make a mixed number you need to take an improper fraction and make it to a mixed number in these steps. First you need to, for example take 9/5 and you look at denominator and you have to see how many times it goes into the numerator. In this case it’s only 1 time. So you know 1 is the whole number but you don’t know the numerator or denominator. So you have a remainder of 4 so that will be your numerator. And 5 will still be your denominator. Therefore your mixed number is 2 4/5

 Step 1. Multiply the numerators  Step 2. Multiply the denominators  Step 3. If needed simplify the fractions

 1/3 2/5 2/15 First I multiplied the numerators which came to 2. Then I multiplied the denominators which came to 15 Then I looked and I couldn’t reduce. 2/5 ½ 2/10 1/5 First I multiplied the numerators which is 2 Then I multiplied the denominators to 10 Then I looked to see if I could reduce which I can reduce to 1/5 ( 2)

 1\5 1/8 =  1/9 9/11  2\9 3\6 6/8 ½  1\6 9\11  5\6 2\9  2\9 9\12  4\6 5\9 4\14 9\16 6\8 6\9

1. Turn the 2 nd fraction upside down(how you do a reciprocal) 2. Multiply the fraction by the reciprocal 3. Simplify if possible 1/2 1/6 ½ 6/1 6/2 = 3

No lie

Step 1. The bottom numbers (denominators) have to be the same Step2. Add the top numbers and put the answer over the same denominator Step 3. Simplify the fraction

If Rihanna had 12 singles and 1 album and Pink had 14 singles and 2 albums how many albums and singles do they have together? 12/1 +14/1 = 26/2 First I added the singles (numerator) and the albums (denominator) to get 26 singles and 3 albums

 Step 1. Make the denominator the same.  Step 2. First subtract the numerators (put the answer over the same denominator.)  Step 3. If needed simplify the fraction.

 6/8-2/8=4/8 then simplify so 4/8 will change to ½  5/6-7/12  First get common denominators 10/12-7/12  Next subtract the numerators 10/12-7/12=3/12  Then simplify 3/12=1/4

 Common denominators just means that the denominators in two or more fractions are common or the same.

 Start by listing multiples for each number  2:2,4,6,8,10,12,14  4:4,8,12,16,20,24,28  The common denominators would be 4,8,12
