Comm Arts-Day 2 (only get a computer if you NEED to type your poem) Bell Ringer: Below is an excerpt from a poem. In this excerpt the poem compares himself to a part of nature, much like you all are. Please write down the point of each line in his stanza. What does he want you to PAUSE and think about in each line ? I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. (Four lines, three minutes)

Lesson Goal and Essential Question Lesson Goal: I can use words / language to evoke a personal response from the reader. Essential Question: How do I effectively use imagery/sensory language?

Some clarifications In your summative you need AT LEAST five stanzas and four lines each. It may be longer. You may use senses more than once. If one sense does not work with your poem you DO NOT have to use it. Do not force it. Instead make sure you have at least five examples of imagery, but different kinds. Not all ONE, at least THREE. You may do an introduction stanza or a conclusion stanza. Be creative, bold, it’s ok to say something without directly saying it. Some poems have multiple meanings.

Example Imagery lines from your poems. Take one minute and share a part of your poem with your partner. Have them close their eyes and see if they can use one of their five senses to connect to your poem. (1 min.) Great examples:

This is your time to finish Please finish your poem. Highlight and underline. Have the proper heading, this is a type 3. Check your FCAS. Check your Collins words. Raise your hand and I will pair you up with someone to give you a grow and glow. Edit, check pauses, and FCAS one last time. If you choose and you have completed all of the above you may decorate your poem. If it is typed, please print during flex and have ready for class tomorrow.

Exit Ticket If time permits a gallery walk. Give positive, constructive feedback. Please sign each comment. What grade would you give yourself right now? Why? Write down your best line of imagery.
