2 Aim #4: How did Hinduism transform Indian culture? Do Now: -How do we view death in American society? Try to think of an example from a movie, television show or book that represents the way you think about death?

3 I. Hinduism is a polytheistic religion that developed from the hymns and religious ceremonies of the Aryans Brahma - Creator Vishnu- Preserver Shiva- Destroyer

5 III. REINCARNATION ·Belief that an individual soul is born again and again in different forms. For human beings, the form in which you are reincarnated depends on your karma.

6 IV. KARMA ·All the good and bad deeds you have committed in your lifetime. ·How can this help you in the reincarnation process?

7 V. DHARMA ·Duties that you owe to your caste (example: Brahmins are expected not to eat meat). ·Do your dharma to get good karma. Then you move up in the Varna (Hindu name for the caste system)

8 VI. The Goal: MOKSHA An end to the cycle of rebirth and suffering. To rejoin the soul (atman) with Brahman (the Universal Soul or God).

9 Concluding Question How does the Hindu view of life and death compare to the one we have in the United States?
