Implementing a Regional Shorebird and Waterfowl Survey and Monitoring Database John D. Stanton Robin Hunnewell 59 th Annual SEAFWA Conference St. Louis, Missouri

Current Uses of the web-based SAMBI Database: 1. To determine distribution and trends of waterfowl and shorebirds. 2. To track the timing of shorebird migration. 3. To note the occurrence of rare or high priority species. 4. To provide “real-time” buildup and declines of shorebirds for habitat management planning.

Current Information and Uses of the SAMBI Website:-Cont’d. 5. To provide a network for monitoring color- banded shorebirds. 6. To provide the public access to waterfowl and shorebird numbers via the Internet. 7. To improve management decisions to allocate managed shorebird habitat.

A Regional survey and monitoring need….. “The PRISM Connection” Program for Regional and International Shorebird and Monitoring (PRISM)

PRISM and SAMBI PRISM is a blueprint for surveying shorebirds in North America, designed to meet the monitoring goals of the U.S. and Canadian Shorebird Conservation Plans (Brown 2001; Donaldson 2001).PRISM is a blueprint for surveying shorebirds in North America, designed to meet the monitoring goals of the U.S. and Canadian Shorebird Conservation Plans (Brown 2001; Donaldson 2001).
