1 AIM: How do we make profiles? Do now: -Take the worksheet from the back TOP bin. Take out a piece of scrap paper and make sure you have a pencil for today’s lesson. - In your notes explain what is meant by a topographic profile? Have you ever heard the term profile used in other classes?

2 Topographic Profile - Side view of the landscape you are looking at

3 I. Steps for Drawing Topographic Profiles 1. Draw a line (if not already provided) between the points you will create the profile for.

4 2. Fill in the contour line values (and transfer the given values) above this line.

5 3. Place your scrap paper across the bottom of line we drew. Where ever a contour line crosses our scrap paper mark it and label with the elevation on the scrap paper. COPY THE NOTES and then we will practice

7 4. Take your scrap paper and line it up at the bottom of the graph next to the profile. Transfer the tick marks we made on the scrap to the graph COPY THE NOTES and then we will practice

9 5. Connect the points with a smooth line. -The tops of mountains and the bottom of valleys are always curved (not single points). -They do not touch the next contour line.
