Werner Heisenberg By TaeVon Boyd CaDeisha Harris Cody Newcomb

2 Heisenberg’s Biography
Werner Heisenberg was born on December 5, 1901. His father was Dr. August Heisenberg and his mother was Anne Wecklein. Heisenberg attended Maximilian at Munich until 1920.

3 Heisenberg’s Biography
In 1929, he went on a lecture tour to United States, Japan, and India. In 1941, he was appointed professor of physics at the University of Berlin.

4 Biography Continue…. During 1955 Heisenberg was occupied with preparations for the removal of the Max Planck Institute for Physics to Munich. Apart from many medals and prizes, Heisenberg received an honorary doctorate of the University of Bruxelles, of the Technological University Karlsruhe.

5 Werner Heisenberg And recently (1964) of the University of Budapest; he is also recipient of the Order of Merit of Bavaria, and the Grand Cross for Federal Services with Star (Germany). His theory of quantum mechanics was published in 1925, when he was only 23 years old.

6 Biography Continue…. In 1948 Heisenberg stayed for some months in Cambridge, England, to give lectures, and in 1950 and 1954 he was invited to lecture in the United States. Werner Heisenberg died on February 1, 1976.

8 Uncertainty Principle
The principle that the momentum and position of a particle cannot both be precisely determined at the same time. A quantum particle can never be in a state of rest, as this would mean we know both its position and momentum precisely.

9 Uncertainty Principle Continue…
Uncertainty principle derives from the measurement problem, the intimate connection between the wave and particle nature of quantum objects. The change in a velocity of a particle becomes more ill defined as the wave function is confined to a smaller region.

10 Uncertainty Principle Continue….
The birth of quantum mechanics is intimately linked with the theories and discoveries relating to the nature of light. In laymen's terms it basically means when you measure an atom for position, you cannot find its velocity, but when you measure its velocity you cannot find its position.
