Changes to CEP for 2011-2012 season No longer required to be Level “X” corresponding to particular age groups Enter the 2011-2012 season at whatever level you are currently certified –Current certifications (other than Level 4) only good for 2 seasons –Past certifications can be picked up (i.e., if certification has expired) Expected to attend 1 CEP course per season up through Level 4 Registrations will be capped at smaller numbers for each course –Perhaps only 30-40 per course instead of 200 in past –No guarantee that more courses will be offered – sign up early –Walk-in’s no longer allowed – must sign up online and in advance Once at Level 3, allowed to re-certify once online at Track 1 (or take Level 4), then once online at Track 2 (or take Level 4), then must attend Level 4 All coaches, including Level 4, are required to take an age-specific course prior to 12/31/11 –For example, I am coaching Bantams and Squirts this season, and will need to complete age-specific courses for both

Changes to CEP for 2011-2012 season Year 1 (e.g., 2011-2012)Level 1 Clinic & age-specific component (online) Year 2 (e.g., 2012-2013Level 2 Clinic & age-specific component (online) if not previously taken for current age level Year 3 and 4 (e.g., 2013- 2014 and 2014-2015) Level 3 Clinic & age-specific component (online) if not previously taken for current age level Year 5 and 6 (e.g., 2015- 2016 and 2016-2017) Level 3 Track 1 online re-certification or Level 4 & age-specific component if not previously taken for current age level Year 7 and 8 (e.g., 2017- 2018 and 2018-2019) Level 3 Track 2 online re-certification or Level 4 & age-specific component if not previously taken for current age level Year 9 and 10 (e.g., 2019- 2020 and 2020-2021) Must attend Level 4 Clinic & age-specific component if not previously taken for current age level

ADM and Cross Ice program for Mites What is ADM? –Emphasis on skill development –More touches/repetitions –Small spaces –Cross-ice element in practices and games Note: with the passage of the PeeWee no- checking proposal, ADM will now include “Body Contact” techniques starting at Mites

ADM for KPW Mites How will ADM be implemented at KP-Walpole? Practices – all Mite practices are required to be conducted using the ADM approach, plan to incorporate at Squirt-Bantam levels periodically –Summary of feedback on last year’s experimentation Elements of the KPW ADM approach include: Cross-Ice “game” station “ABC’s” station Battle drill station – competitive in nature (1v1, 2v2, 3v2, etc.) Turns, pivots & stops station (for the Mite/Squirt) – essentially the “Core Drills” we’ve built into the beginning of practices over the past 4-5 seasons Puck control station Other station(s) of your choosing –Good idea to include “fun” sessions occasionally as part of practice For example, soccer game on ice (no sticks)

Cross Ice program for Mites Mite 1’s will be encouraged to take advantage of scheduling Cross-Ice games for 2011-2012 season Mite 2’s & 3’s will have a Cross-Ice game requirement, in addition to their Westboro game schedules Other programs (Westwood, Medfield, Tri-Valley, Framingham so far) have expressed interest in scheduling Cross-Ice games with our Mite 1’s, 2’s and 3’s The Cross-Ice Mite teams will be allocated in the fall after several practices –Want to ensure balance among teams –Planning for 10 players per team –Game schedule being developed with Tri-Valley, Medfield, Westwood and possibly others –KPW is planning to host the league with some of our Norfolk Saturday ice

Incorporating ADM into other age levels In place of “clinics” Try to coordinate 3 teams together roughly monthly basis When these are scheduled, Head Coaches should coordinate who is doing what before you get to the rink –The framework is there, just need to agree on specific drills to execute

Equipment Information Update Jersey information –Submit to Maura Buckley (program Secretary) coordinating Jersey order with Day Street White “pinnies” –Not all were returned after last season –When equipment handed out in August, you may need to confirm your entire team is covered If needed, more can be ordered from Day Street Rest of team equipment will be handed out at next Coach’s meeting in August –Pucks, water bottles and carriers, cones, socks, goalie equipment for those teams that need it, etc.

Registrar Information Updates IMRs from USA Hockey –ALL Coaches and Players must register for 2011-2012 season at: https://www.usahockeyregistration.com –Need Hard Copy w/ Barcode. NO MORE EMAILS! Feedback from recent District 3 Meeting: –CORIs: Everyone who with be in contact with the kids will be required to submit a CORI Includes Head/Assistant Coaches, Team Managers, “Locker room parents”, etc. Please collect IMR’s and CORI forms now from entire team (Players, and Coaches) and submit in one package per team to KPW Registrar: Dave Galetta 24 Lafayette Lane Norfolk, MA 02056

Coach’s Handbook Suggestions Drills sections will be re-organized to roughly correspond to ADM elements as KPW will implement them –Also has been suggested to include Goalie-specific drills –On a related note, assign an Assistant Coach to work with goalie throughout the season Looking for additional suggestions to include in drill packages –Note: the existing drills are only suggestions and not meant to be considered exclusive or comprehensive Other changes or additions to the Handbook? –What other information would you find helpful? Handbooks will be provided at next Coach’s meeting in August

Team introductory e-mails Hopefully you’ve had a chance to contact your teams… –Take advantage of the mailing lists built into your team pages on the KPW website IMRs –Direct Team to USA Hockey Website: https://www.usahockeyregistration.com. –Collect and submit as team to Dave Galetta

Thanks The success of the KPW program depends on the time, dedication, and commitment of all its volunteers, but especially to you Coaches… This round’s on me…
