Jobs have been lost and technical jobs have been created

General Unemployment Car workers lost their jobs as a result of the introduction of robots Clerical workers have been replaced by computers Most car parks are automated

Reasons For The use of IT-Effects Repetitiveness and accuracy Time and automation Bank workers Shop workers New employment opportunities

Repetitiveness and accuracy Robots are used because certain tasks must be done in exactly the same way with the same degree of accuracy. In Banking there are also tasks that have to be done in exactly the same way Can you think of other reasons for the use of robots?

Time and Automation Office tasks that have been automated include payroll processing. Everything was done manually in the past(the recording and calculations). Even data entry is now done using magnetic cards or chips.

Bank Workers Online banking has meant that some bank cashiers have lost their jobs. Cheque processing has dropped significantly Cheque processing centres are closing

Shop workers The numbers of shop assistants has fallen greatly Fewer workers are required to carry out stock control due to the introduction of EPOS These are linked to automated stock control systems.

New Employment Opportunities Most jobs now require ICT skills Systems analysts are now in great demand Analyse the existing system and recommend new designs Computer programmers/developers Computer technicians Help desk personnel

Studies have also shown that employees now have to work from home. They can be phoned and be asked to do something from home. Workers also tend to volunteer to work long hours. Less time is spend travelling which means that leisure time has increased.
