7 On page 9: Write and label the following sentences: 1. I grabbed the men’s basket of fish. 2. I swam past the bridge but the people in the boat still followed. 3. They were shouting angrily and throwing huge spears into the water. 4. I paddled for dear life, too scared to glance behind me. 5. I escaped, although I was slightly injured.

8 Glue in Grammar notebook on page 80- across from your vivid word sentences.

9 Each group will get a word. You have to describe it to the class using the best adjectives you can think of and see just how quickly they can come up with the word. You cannot use obvious adjectives.

10 What’s a transitional sentence in writing?  A transitional sentence in writing signals a shift in topic or idea. Usually it is identified with a transition.  Our transitional sentences are going to be underlined in squiggly orange.

11 Transitions in writing: Glue on page 64 of grammar notebook.  Circle the topic in blue  Box the topic sentence in green  Underline the transitions and transitional sentences in orange.  Underline the supporting details in red  Write the main idea in a cloud at the bottom.

12 Your turn… identify and label the topic, topic sentence, main idea, and supporting details in the following article.
