2. Auguste Rodin (French, 1840–1917)
Rodin was a famous artist know mainly for his sculptures – The Thinker, The Gates of Hell, etc. He broke away from centuries of Greek tradition.
Toward the end of his career, Rodin began to use giant hands in a series of original and idiosyncratic arrangements, with titles such as The Hand of God, The Hand of the Devil (1903), The Cathedral (1908), and The Secret (ca. 1910).

5. Rodin’s Ideology
His sculpture emphasized the individual and the concreteness of flesh, and suggested emotion through detailed, textured surfaces, and the interplay of light and shadow. To a greater degree than his contemporaries, Rodin believed that an individual's character was revealed by his physical features.2
