This is going to marked as a GCSE piece of coursework! You can get a grade between an F and an A* You can use my prompts to help you BUT, MAKE SURE YOU WRITE IT AS A REPORT. DON’T JUST ANSWER MY QUESTIONS

2468 Summary of evidence Points out a difference that occurred Identifies a trendFormally describes a trend Discusses limitation to conclusion, in relation to data collected Evaluation of method Makes a relevant comment about how the data is collected Comments on limitations to accuracy based on method /equipment Suggests simple improvements with out much discussion of the method Describes improvements in detail and explains why these would help Reliability of evidence Makes a claim about reliability or accuracy without backing it up Notes whether results are as expected Uses data to suggest if there are any odd results Considers what may have caused the odd results. Discusses ways to make the experiment more reliable Reliability of conclusion Relates confidence in conclusion simply to method Discusses confidence in conclusion based on the method Discusses reasons why not 100% confident Discusses further work and how this would improve confidence presentationNo real changes to design are made A few changes are made but are simple Develops own p.pDevelops own p.p with excellent design elements.

Mentos and Cola Name:

Equipment needed What equipment did you use?

Variables? What are your variables? Independent > what will you change? Dependent > what will you measure? Control > what will you keep the same and why?

method What will you do??? Make sure it is clear and anyone could follow it

Conclusion What happened? What is the trend? (the more…..the higher the…….)

The Science Inside all fizzy drinks is carbon dioxide gas. This is pumped into the bottle at high pressure and remains suspended in the liquid at high pressure until you open the bottle then the gas is able to form bubbles.

The reason bubbles can’t form when the drink is under pressure is because water molecules strongly attract each other and they surround each bubble of carbon dioxide gas in the drink this is known as surface tension. In order to form a new bubble, or even to expand a bubble that has already formed, water molecules must be pushed away from each other. Energy is required to break this "surface tension."

When you drop the sweat into the soda, chemicals on the surface of it help break the surface tension. This means the water does not surround the bubbles as tightly so it is easier for them to form and get bigger. Also each sweat has tiny pits all over the surface. These tiny pits are perfect for letting carbon dioxide bubbles to form.

When lots of bubbles form really quickly it literally pushes all of the liquid up and out of the bottle in an incredible soda blast.

Why do you think you got the results you did? Use the science!!!

Evaluation How did the experiment go overall? did the results show a clear trend? Was there anything about the method that could have been improved? How could we change the method and how would this make the experiment better? How confident are you in your conclusion? What makes you confident about it? What makes you not that sure? What could you do to increase your confidence in it?
