What does an organism use energy for? Organisms use this energy to move, grow, reproduce, and carry out other life activities (recall the requirements for being classified as alive). Energy is used for life activities. Used energy is “lost.” Because of this, only some of the energy that an organism obtains will be available to the next organism in the food web. EX: (your experience, new question, or WU answered.)

What is an energy pyramid? An energy pyramid shows the amount of energy that moves from one feeding level to another in a food web. What level has the most amount of energy?

The most amount of energy can be found at the bottom of the food web with the producers. Please turn to page 744 in your textbooks. How many times more energy is available at one level compared to the amount of energy at the next level up?

Create a question! The amount of energy available on one level of an energy pyramid is 10 times greater than that available at the next level up. Why a pyramid?

It shows how much energy is lost from one level to the next. Why do you think that there are always fewer predators than there are prey?

Why are there always fewer predators than there are prey? The energy available at the top can only support a few organisms. EX: (your experience, new question, or WU answered.)
