3 Biography Dara Twomey is a Research Fellow in the School of Human Movement and Sport Sciences at the University of Ballarat. Dara completed her PhD in Biomechanics, investigating the influence of low arched feet on basic motor skill performance in children at the University of New South Wales in 2006. Dara’s current research focuses on sports injury prevention and the link between ground conditions and injuries. This work has received awards and recognition at both national and international level conferences. Dara is currently leading the Sport Surface Research Group within one of the funded research themes at the University of Ballarat. This group comprises collaborators from within UB, University of Western Australia, University of New South Wales, University of Sydney and Loughborough University (UK).

4 Biography… She is also leading research regarding the use of synthetic surfaces for community Australian football and cricket in Australia, having recently completed a benchmark feasibility study for the Australian Football League. Dara also undertakes some teaching, primarily in the area of biomechanics.
