RecyclingRecycling

Starter activity- key terms Cut out the terms and definitions and past them into your book. These are the keys word that you need to know for this unit 10 minutes to complete this task

Today’s lesson Learning intention: -Describe the role recycling has in an ecosystem Success criteria: -Define the term ‘recycling’ -Identify examples of recycling in a NZ ecosystem -Use the terms Producer, consumer and decomposer to explain the transfer of energy in an ecosystem

Recycling Re-use things that use to be living and reduce the total amount of waste. In this process nutrients are able to be used by living organisms again. We will be looking at recycling in a natural environment. Often we think that recycling is only what humans do with plastic bottles and old cardboard.

Task 1 Watch the video clip (The big picture) and look for examples of where things are recycled in nature. Write a quick paragraph explaining what you saw in the video

Task 2 Recap- Write a definition for each of the following: 1.Producers- 2.Consumers- 3.Decomposers- 4.Recycling- (don’t define this again) - Explain how energy is recycled in nature using the 4 terms above. You might want to draw a labelled diagram

Conclusion Recycling in nature is an important process to ensure that nutrients are not lost when living things die.
