2 Early Life Gordy Howe was born on March 31, Howe was born in a farmhouse in Floral, Saskatchewan. He was slightly dyslexic growing up. He was six feet tall in his teens. He began playing organized hockey when he was 8 years old. He Began his hockey career when he was 16 years old.

3 Playing Career Howe was spotted by a New York Ranger scout and invited to tryout at age 15. He didn’t make the team though. A year later he was noticed by the Detroit Red Wings. He was signed to the Red Wings and put on the Junior team in Galt, Ontario. He was put on the NHL Red Wings when he was 18 years old. He started out playing Right Wing.

4 Howe led Detroit to four Stanley Cups
Howe led Detroit to four Stanley Cups. Howe had his worst injury when He and Ted Kennedy of the Toronto Maple Leafs Collided in to the boards, Howe ended up fracturing his skull. But the next year he had a record 86 points.

5 Retirement After he retired he was inducted into the hall of fame. He was voted the third best player in Hockey history. The votes said Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr were better. Bobby Orr thought Howe was a better player though. They have made a big statue of Howe in Joe Louis Arena.

6 Personal Life Howe and his wife, Colleen Joffa, had four sons one named Marty and one named Mark and one named Murray and the last named Gordon. They had a daughter named Colleen They both got to play with their Dad on the Houston Aeros and the Hartford Whalers. Mark went on to have a long career in the NHL. He played 16 seasons for the Philadelphia Flyers.
