1 Entry Task How can music and music videos be arguments? What kind of bias or messages have you heard in music? Today you will need: journal, writing utensil, techniques sheet and vocab out on your desk.

2 “Try”-Colbie Caillat Music Video As you watch the video I want you to take notes on bias within the song itself (lyrics, instrumentation, etc) and the music video (camera shots, angles, message etc).

3 Respond Look over your notes, and answer the following questions – Who is the intended audience? – Does the artist show a bias towards or against something? What is it? – What argument is the song/video making? – What rhetorical devices exist within the video or lyrics?

4 “Where is the love” Black Eyed Peas Video As you watch this video, pay attention to the lyrics and the presentation within the video (same thing as for the previous video).

5 Respond Look over your notes, and answer the following questions – Who is the intended audience? – Does the artist show a bias towards or against something? What is it? – What argument is the song/video making? – What rhetorical devices exist within the video or lyrics?

6 In your journal… With your partner, choose one song, and then compare your answers to the questions. Write two claims about the song: one about the message presented, and one about the significant technique used. Using those two claims, put them together to write a clear, concise and specific thesis about the argument being made and how it was presented.
