3 Background Using Information and Curriculum Technology in UK schools “used well (digital technologies) have the potential to improve achievement …. and to significantly enhance our quality of life” Tony Blair - Prime Minister UK - 2001 All teachers trained after 1998 have to pass competency in ICT Between 1999 and 2003 all practising teachers to reach the same standard Massive funding of over £2 billion (3,000,000,000 Euros) in funding for hardware in UK schools in last 5 years and £500 million (7.5 million Euros) for a ‘digital curriulum’ over next 3 years.

15 Summary ICT should be used when it can: –(i) Do something that could not previously be done –(ii) Do something more effectively or efficiently Identify the skills you and the pupils need to use the ICT Plan carefully (Objectives, Assessment, Outcomes) Using ICT changes teaching styles and expectations You are still a teacher of RE ! If the ICT does not enhance the RE do not use it!
