2. Overview Georgia Performance Standards
The M&M company has asked students to find out the most common color of M&M’s. Students will create a graph and compare results with the class to determine the most common color. Students will then create a new M&M that is the color found to be most common.
Georgia Performance Standards
MKD1 Students will pose questions, collect data, organize, and record results using objects, pictures, and picture graphs. MKP1 Students will solve problems (using appropriate technology). a. 3. Introduction
The M&M company has asked me to help them in developing a new M&M. They need this new M&M to be the color most commonly found in a bag of M&Ms. You will need to work independently to graph a bag of M&M to find out the most common color. You will then develop a new flavor of M&M that is the color you found to be most common. I will be sending the new flavors to the president of the M&M company, Paul Michaels. He will decide on the newest flavor!

4. Task
In order to help develop the newest flavor of M&Ms you will need to find the most common color of M&M’s by creating a graph with a partner. You will then work with your partner to develop a new flavor of M&M. I will be sending your new creations to the president of M&M/Mars.

Process
Step 1 With your partner-graph your M&Ms on the paper you are given
Step 2 Color the graph the color of the M&Ms (each child will turn in their own graph)
Step 3 Fill in the box marked “Most Common Color” with the most common M&M color found in your bag.
Step 4 Work with your partner to develop a new M&M flavor that is the color you found the most in your bag

7. Conclusion
Now that everyone has completed a graph I want to find out what color each group found to be the most common. Lets make a class graph of our most common colors.
