5 Details of the Industrial Transformation Research Programme—the Schemes (1) Consists of two schemes: - Industrial Transformation Research Hubs - Industrial Transformation Training Centres

6 Details of the Industrial Transformation Research Programme—the Schemes (2) Overall objectives: - foster important partnerships between business and universities - support researchers (higher degree by research and post doctoral fellows) to gain ‘hands-on’, practical skills and experience in important priority areas

7 Industrial Transformation Training Centres (ITTC) To foster close partnerships between university-based researchers and industry to provide innovative training for early career researchers vital to Australia’s future industry. Over the life of the programme the ARC will enable: - establishing Training Centres nationwide - support ‘industry ready’ Higher Degree by Research candidates and postdoctoral researchers - provide a maximum of $1 million per year for up to five (5) years for each Training Centre.

8 Industrial Transformation Research Hubs (ITRH) Opportunities for universities and industrial partners to focus on significant collaborative R&D projects with outcomes beyond their independent endeavours. The ARC will invest up to $1 million per year in each Research Hub with matching investment by industry partners up to a maximum of five years

9 Changes for IC16* (1) “The objectives of the Industrial Transformation Training Centres scheme have been updated ” – drive growth, productivity and competitiveness within key growth sectors *Essentially similar changes in Hubs

10 Changes for IC16 (2) “The selection criteria have been updated to reflect the Government’s Boosting the Commercial Returns from Research agenda ” – does the Training Centre demonstrate meaningful engagement with the relevant Industry Growth Centre(s)? – is there a clearly identified market opportunity and benefit to Australian industry?

11 Changes for IC16 (3) “if the Industrial Transformation Priorities include a medical research-related priority, Industrial Transformation Research Hubs and Industrial Transformation Training Centres proposals addressing the priority may be submitted, having regard to the objectives of the relevant scheme”

12 Changes for IC16 (4) “Requirement for Training Centre Directors to have a minimum time commitment of 0.5 FTE (50 per cent of Full Time Equivalent) on the activities of the Centre (C9.2.2).”
