IAEA INIS SUBJECT ANALYSIS Steps: Subject classification (categorization) Abstracting Subject indexing and data flagging Requirements to the indexer To have scientific knowledge in the respective area To be familiar with the INIS/ETDE Subject categories To be familiar with INIS/ETDE Thesaurus To be familiar with INIS input rules INIS Training Seminar 14-16 Novemner 20115

IAEA INIS SUBJECT ANALYSIS Title Cernavoda CANDU 600 NPP - latest in house improvements of main control room functionality based on computerized applications Abstract As part of Romania program to adhere at European Union, SNN started the construction of a new Emergency Control Center It is designed to act as a site coordination center in case of nuclear accident The communication and information channels requirements of such facility are supplemented with an electronic display for a number of critical process parameters which should briefly characterize the nuclear reactor status during the accident The authors designed, developed and deployed the system for Cernavoda NPP After implementation the system started to be evaluated in idea to be used also as an important operator tool in Main Control Room of the plant and also to be replicated in other national level emergency centers Implementation effort was helped by the Plant Information system previously deployed in MCR (author) Authors Popa-Nemoiu, D; Nica, D; dpopa@cnero; SNNuclearelectrica, Cernavoda (Romania); dnica@cnero Subject SPECIFIC NUCLEAR REACTORS AND ASSOCIATED PLANTS (S21) Source/Report Canadian Nuclear Society, Toronto, Ontario (Canada); Canadian Nuclear Association, Ottawa, Ontario (Canada); Canadian Nuclear Society; Toronto, Ontario (Canada); Nuclear energy: a world of service to humanity. 27th annual conference of the Canadian Nuclear Society and 30th Canadian Nuclear Society/Canadian Nuclear Association student conference; 233 Megabytes; 2006; [10 p.]; 27. 13 IAEA INIS SCOPE DESCRIPTIONS INIS Training Seminar 14-16 Novemner 201113

IAEA ABSTRACTING Guidelines for Abstract Preparation Submit an informative abstract whenever possible Emphasize what is novel about the information in the original document Do not repeat the title of the original document in the body of the abstract Do not exceed 6000 characters (900-1200 words) in length, including spaces and symbols Title augmentation should indicate in a concise and abbreviated form the essential topic discussed in the piece of literature to which no reference is made in the title INIS Training Seminar 14-16 Novemner 201114

IAEA SUBJECT INDEXING: THESAURUS Thesaurus definition "A thesaurus is a terminological control device used in translating from the natural language of documents, indexers or users into a more constrained system language. It is a controlled and dynamic vocabulary of semantically and generically related terms which covers a specific domain of knowledge“ Structure of the Thesaurus two types – valid terms and forbidden terms interrelationships are of three types: preferential (used for, seen for…), hierarchical (BT, NT…) and affinitive (RT) each term has “word block” – all terms associated with it INIS Training Seminar 14-16 Novemner 201115

IAEA SUBJECT INDEXING: THESAURUS INIS/ETDE Thesaurus 21882 valid terms 8677 forbidden terms INIS Training Seminar 14-16 Novemner 201116 ADAPTIVE SYSTEMS 2004-05-28 Systems that have the ability to learn, change their state, or otherwise react to stimuli or changes in their environment. UF self-learning systems *BT1 computerized control systems RT algorithms BUBBLE CHAMBERS *BT1 gas track detectors NT1 cryogenic bubble chambers NT1 heavy liquid bubble chambers NT1 ultrasonic bubble chambers RT digitizers

IAEA SUBJECT INDEXING: THESAURUS INIS Training Seminar 14-16 Novemner 201117

IAEA SUBJECT INDEXING: RULES Identify concepts – translate into valid descriptors Use the most specific descriptor – always prefer NTs Do not assign BT if its NT is assigned Use the word block – BT – for correctness; NT – for specificity; RT – for completeness Avoid overindexing (best between 5 and 20) Propose a new term when necessary - according to the rules INIS Training Seminar 14-16 Novemner 201118

IAEA SUBJECT INDEXING: TOOLS There are two main INIS products used for indexing: WinFibre and CAI WinFibre – for input preparation both bibliographic and subject indexing CAI (Computer Assisted Indexing) – for subject classification and indexing INIS/ETDE Thesaurus is incorporated in both INIS Training Seminar 14-16 Novemner 201119

IAEA CAI INIS Training Seminar 14-16 Novemner 201121

IAEA DATA FLAGGING Special emphasis should be placed on the indexing of DATA. If the document contains useful numerical data, assign an appropriate narrower term from the DATA wordblock: DATA (For data flagging always use a more specific term.) BT1 information NT1 numerical data NT2 compiled data NT2 evaluated data NT2 experimental data NT2 financial data NT2 statistical data NT2 theoretical data RT cinda INIS Training Seminar 14-16 Novemner 201122

IAEA COMMON ERRORS IN CLASSIFCATION Incorrect use of category S70 Plasma Physics and Fusion Technology instead of S71, S79, S36, S74,… S72 Physics of elementary particle and fields instead of S73, S71, S75 Use of more general category S22 General Studies of Nuclear Reactors instead of S21 S43 Particle Accelerators instead of category of application – S36, S72, S62, S46… For correct classification use INIS/ETDE Scope Description INIS Training Seminar 14-16 Novemner 201124

IAEA COMMON ERRORS IN INDEXING Material Science GROWTH instead of CRYSTAL GROWTH Plasma physics IGNITION instead of THERMONUCLEAR IGNITION Physics of Elementary Particles and Fields PRODUCTION instead of PARTICLE PRODUCTION COLOR instead of COLOR MODEL FLAVOR, HOLOGRAPHY, TRANSPORT, CAVITIES, SOLUTIONS…etc. INIS Training Seminar 14-16 Novemner 201125
