3 In this lesson we will: NxG M.7.G.1 - Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including: – Computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing – Reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale (CCSS M.7.G.1)

4 Scale Factor Example Kelley’s porch is 28 feet by 8 feet. She wants to replace the boards on her deck. She creates a scaled sketch of her deck using a scale factor of ¼. On the sketch, 1 foot = 1 inch – Here’s what she does! She begins by dividing each of the measurements by 4 because her sketch is SMALLER than the original. 28 feet = 28 / 4 = 7 inches 8 feet = 8 / 4 = 2 inches – The dimensions of Kelley’s scaled sketch is 7 inches by 2 inches.
