Review Day!  Objective:  SWBAT dominate the matter unit test tomorrow!  Catalyst:  Give an example of a physical and a chemical change.  What happens to particles during a phase change?  Write a hypothesis to the following scenario: If I eat a salad for lunch for 3 weeks, then I will lose 5 pounds.

Agenda  Catalyst  Quiz-Quiz Trade  Showdown  Graphing  Whiteboards  Work on Review Sheet

Quiz-Quiz-Trade  You have 15 minutes to move around.  If you do not have a partner, have your hand up ready to slap hands with a potential partner.  If your partner misses the question, you must COACH them to the correct answer.

DENSITY SHOWDOWN! There are two students that will come up and do these problems.

The mass of a piece of pizza is 350 grams and the volume is volume is 70 cm 3.

A student determines that a piece of an unknown material has a mass of 5.854 g and a volume of 7.57 cm 3.

Iron has a known density of 7.87 g/cm 3. What would be the mass of a 2.5 cm 3 piece of iron?

A 2cm*3cm*7cm block of aluminum is found in a room. The density of aluminum is 2.7 g/cm 3. What is the mass?

A 3 gram piece of aluminum (D=2.7 g/cm 3 ) has what volume?

A 4 kg piece of metal has a density of 4 g/cm 3 --- what is the volume?

How to Graph Density 1. Label axes (x = volume, y = mass) 2. Title graph (y-axis vs. x-axis) 3. Determine scales 4. Plot each point 5. Draw trend line (line of best fit) For density graphs, the slope equals the density!

GRAPHING Volume (mL)Mass (g) 0.0 2.04.0 9.0 6.011.0 8.016.0 10.020.0

Remember  Graph, then find the slope of your LINE OF BEST FIT!  Look for the crosshairs and find two points for slope.

GRAPHING-You Try! Volume (mL)Mass (g) 0.0 5.04.0 10.09.0 15.011.0 20.016.0 25.020.0

GRAPHING-You Try! Volume (mL)Mass (g) 0.0 5.04.0 10.07.5 15.013.0 20.016.0 25.019.5

Whiteboard Practice!  Describe how you take volume of a rock.

Whiteboard Practice  Describe how you would separate a mixture of sand, water, and oil.

Whiteboard Practice!  How would you separate salt from water?

Exit Question  What is the definition of matter?  Describe the Kinetic Molecular Theory.  What are you going to do to dominate this test tomorrow?
