Dangerous Drinking By: Logan Hamnes

Problem Underage binge drinking has been increasingly becoming a major problem on college campuses There’s been an increase in young adults binge drinking, getting alcohol poisoning and getting sexually assaulted at parties

Problem 1,825 college students between the ages of 18 and 24 die each year from alcohol-related unintentional injuries More than 690,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted by another student who has been drinking About half of college students who drink, consume alcohol through binge drinking

More than 97,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are victims of alcohol-related sexual assault or date rape. 599,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 receive unintentional injuries while under the influence of alcohol About 25% of college students report academic consequences of their drinking including missing class, falling behind, doing poorly on exams or papers, and receiving lower grades overall

Cause Drinking age is 21 College students can’t drink legally in public, supervised places Binge Drinking Since it’s illegal for students to drink publicly, they’ve been doing it behind closed doors in a dangerous environment

Solution If we lower the drinking age, young adults won’t have to drink behind closed doors in unsupervised areas College students would be able to drink at bars with all of their friends, while there would still be supervision to make sure it doesn’t get out of hand

Counterarguments People say that if you were to lower the drinking age, it would make the traffic accidents rise due to drinking and driving

Conclusion With a decrease in the drinking age, it would most likely cause a lot less accidents from happening while drinking behind closed doors
