2 The half-life of a radioactive isotope explains the amount of time that it takes half of the isotope in a sample to decay.

3 Carbon-14 Dating is a way to determine the age of archeological artifacts. It is used in dating things such as bone, cloth, wood, and plant fibers.

4 Carbon dating is a variety of radioactive dating which is only to matter that once lived. The radioactive carbon-14 combines with oxygen to form carbon dioxide.

5 The carbon-14 forms at a rate which appears to be constant, so that by measuring the radioactive emissions. Carbon-14 decays with a half life of about 5730 years by the emission of an electron of energy.

6 Scientists use a technique called radiometric dating to estimate the ages of rocks, fossils, and the earth. Many people have been led to believe that radiometric dating methods have proved the earth to be billions of years old.
