2 The Drug Influence Evaluation Systematic and Standardized Process The DEC procedure is a systematic and standardized method of examining a subject to determine: Whether the subject is impaired, and if so Whether the impairment is caused by drugs or a medical condition And if drugs, the category (or categories) of drugs that is/are the likely cause of the subject’s impairment

3 The Drug Influence Evaluation Systematic and Standardized Process There may be times when the DRE may be unable to complete each step of the evaluation, i.e., injuries, uncooperative subject, equipment failure, etc.
