Book 2 Unit 7 Fashion Questions for discussion Why do many young people today go after famous name brands in everything they buy? What do you think of those people who judge others by the clothes they wear? Do you believe in the saying “Clothes make the man”? Why or why not?

Language Focus I follow fashion to make myself look more handsome/smart/attractive/beautiful, etc. I don’t go blindly after fashion because I like to create my own images/style. This brand is very fashionable/popular these days. Shoes of this brand are comfortable/inexpensive/long-wearing/easy to care for. These shirts are 100% cotton and machine- washable. Fashion changes when people’s idea change. I’m not a fashion follower. I enjoy going to fashion shows/reading fashion magazines a lot.

Communicative Function Your friend Jack has a new jacket on. It is in good taste. Give your compliments to him. Your friend is wearing a necklace/tie/scarf/blouse/shirt he or she received as a birthday gift. It is in fashion. Say how good it looks on him or her.

Your tie goes well with your shirt. Is that a new shirt? It matches your trousers nicely. So pleased to hear that. How sweet of you to say that. Thanks, it’s now my favorite shirt.
