Marie Curie was born in Warsaw on November 7 1867. She was a daughter of secondary school teacher. In 1891 Marie went to Paris, France to study at Sorbonne, where she obtained Licentiateships in Physics and Mathematical Sciences. In 1894 Marie met Pierre Curie a professor at Sorbonne, in the following year Pierre and Marie got married. Marie help Pierre succeed as head of the Physics Lab in Sorbonne.

On 1906, Pierre past away. She took his place as Head of Lab. It was the first time a women held this position. In 1911 won a Nobel Prize, she was the first women to receive a Nobel prize in this area. After 28 year Marie past away in Savoy, France, she was diagnosed by Leukemia caused by high-radiation in the labs. When Marie past away she was at the age of 67.

The Curies worked together investigating Radioactivity. In July 1998 Pierre and Marie Invented a new chemical element called “Polonium”. At the end of the year they announced the discovery called “Radium”. Radium and Polonium are two radioactive elements which the Curies extracted from pitchblende rays. They were able to kill tumors.

During World War 1, the inventions were really helpful to all the soldiers. Marie designed mobile X-ray machines and went out to war front to help the soldiers.

While Marie clarified Radioactivity elements, Pierre helped by measuring them. Pierre constantly guided her in everything.

All together Marie Curie and Pierres’ inventions helped mankind. She was the one that created the word “radioactivity.” Marie found that radiation kills human cells. Marie was the one who gave the idea of X-ray machines and designed them.

Due to Marie contribution to science we are able to detect cancer. Her Radium was a key to a basic change our understanding the meaning of matter and energy.
