Type 2 Purpose: to write content, showing what writer knows something about a topic Difference between Type 1 & Type 2 is how the teacher grades it (must have a correct answer) Can be used as a formative assessment or quiz (pass/fail or points given) Reinforces subject matter Should be used often

4. Type 2 All students answer a question in writing Must have a definite answer; students make their own meaning by translating concepts into their own words (not open ended) Question, list, definition, etc. Has a number in the question Evaluation kept as simple as possible teacher can skim for correct responses

5. Format of Type 2 Writing Name on the first line, right-hand side Type 2 on the first line, left hand side Skip lines to leave space to refine answers One draft only Defined number of lines/items Timed (2 to 6 minutes) Spelling and mechanics do not count The audience is the teacher

7. Kindergarten: ELA- Write at least 5 uppercase letters. You will have 3 minutes. ELA- Write at least 5 lowercase letters. You will have 3 minutes. First Grade: Math- Write 4 number sentences with the sum of 5.You will have 4 minutes. ELA- In 4 minutes, write 2 key events from the beginning of the story_______________________. Second Grade: ELA- List 5 words that rhyme with can in 3 minutes. ELA- Using the poem “ “, give me 2 words that rhyme and two examples of alliteration in 5 minutes.

8. Third Grade: Math- In five minutes describe in three steps the order to estimate the answer to this problem. ELA-In five minutes and describe the main idea of Pop’s Bridge. Fourth Grade: Math- Round 43, 560 to the nearest thousand. In three steps explain the order to get an answer to this problem. ELA- In five lines and three minutes, write the main idea of the story, Rosa Parks.

9. The answer to a math problem is 15 centimeters. In 2 lines or more, can you write a number sentence that asks the question? (2 lines 5 minutes) Write 2 lines or more why these numbers 1,4,9,16,25,36, 49 and 64 are called square numbers? (4 minutes) Explain at least 4 steps to solve the problem on the board, then solve it. (5 minutes) List 5 capitals in the states we have been studying. (4 minutes) Explain two ways that equilateral triangles and squares are similar. (3 minutes) Explain two mistakes that a student made when creating this graph. (4 minutes) List at least 5 materials we need to conduct this experiment. (5 minutes)
