Outlines:  Presentation topic and goals.  The definitions of ”Flash memory” in Wikipedia and the other two sources.  Comparsion between the results.  Conclusion.  References.

Presentation topic and goals  This is a small research shows the definitions of “Flash memory” in Wikipedia and two other similar sources on the Web “Scribd”, and “TechTerms”.  The goal is to compare between the three results, evaluate them, and try to verify the risks included when relying on one source only, such as Wikipedia.

The three sources used in this presentation English Wikipedia: Started in 2001, it currently contains 4,051,640 articles. Often the first result in all the search engines. Scribd: the world's largest online library. The third result in Bing. Techterms: Free online dictionary of computer and technology terms. It was first published in 2005. the third result in the second page in Google.

The definitions in the three sources: Wikipedia: Scribd: TechTerms:

Comparsion and Evaluation  The three of them started almost with the same sentence telling that the flash memory is an electronic erasable storage that can be reprogrammed electrically.  Wikipedia had the longest introduction, as well as, the longest details about the History, limitations, file systems, and applications of the flash memory.  Scribd went into details as well, but it was poor compared to Wikipedia, and the poorest was TechTerms which settled for just a small 10 line introduction.

Conclusion  We can not deny that Wikipedia is currently the strongest source on the web, but in my point of view, relying exclusively on one source limits the access to different formulations of the written information that give a wider understanding of the information.  Even though I found throw this research that Wikipedia is leading if it is compared with other similar sources, but I personally recommend to use the search engines often to explore an information, so the user will be in front of various sources.
