2 To honor and acknowledge the sacrifices made by our area veterans To provide a central gathering place for activities related to veterans and patriotic programming The three existing Veteran Memorials across the River Valley Area are separated and do not fully reflect the true dedication and service of area veterans. There is limited public visibility of existing Veteran Memorials Why do this?

3 Project started February 2014 Site determined US Army Corps of Engineers APPROVED: 99 yr lease of land approved for this purpose Accepted as city park to be maintained by Parks and Recreation Name changed Architectural rendering Initial cost estimate completed Project History

5 Veterans’ Parks Marker 1 Currently off Detroit Ave. (Crawford School Park) Will be moved near the entrance of the new park

6 Existing Memorials Veterans’ Parks Marker 2 World War II Memorial Currently on South Arkansas Ave. (former Russellville HS/ current Adult Education Center) Will be moved to the pavilion honor area WWII Veteran Memorial

7 Existing Memorials Veterans’ Parks Marker 3 Pope County Veterans Memorial Currently outside Pope County courthouse Will be near the entrance of the park

8 Future Memorials Pope County Civil War Marker (front) Will be near the entrance of the park

19 P Quilt Design 2 Quilts (Donated by two separate individuals) will be raffled during Fall Fest to raise funds; awarded on Veteran’s Day to winners (first prize is winner’s choice)
