2 Definition Party: A metonymy is a form of metaphor in which the subject being artistically rendered is closely associated with (but not an actual part of) the subject it is being compared to.

3 Time to Rock Some Examples: “Checkered flag” is a reference to the end of a race, while “victory” is representative of the winning vehicle. The checkered flag waved and victory crossed the finish line. The use of the noun “City Hall” is to signify, perhaps almost allude to, the idea of power. You can’t fight City Hall.
