After-school and Summer Tutoring Summer Read/Academy! – Summer reading and math program for struggling students Reading Buddy Volunteer Program – 188 volunteers last year and 737 total since the program began

5 Blount County Education Foundation Special Projects Recognize Blount County Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year 2008-2009 Elementary – Lisa Ann Hargett, Hayden Elementary 2008-2009 Secondary – Sheila Gargus, Appalachian High Recognize National Board Certified Teachers Special Grant Awards to Schools winning contests for payroll deduction and radio-thon - $4,100 this year and $28,800 total over the years
