Project overview LinkedUp Project: Wharfedale French and Spanish Community Reading Project

Before the project… We are a group of 8 primary schools in the Wharfe Valley in Yorkshire, working together for support and training to develop our expertise in teaching French or Spanish Almost all children from these schools transfer into only two secondary schools 6 of these 8 schools chose to participate in the LinkedUp Reading project

Outline of the Project The project transferred methodology from Key Stage One literacy acquisition into practice in upper Key Stage 2, by creating supported French or Spanish reading groups for year 5 and 6 children, which provided supportive and enjoyable opportunities to practise reading aloud with adult helpers. The project also aimed to raise the profile of reading in French or Spanish within the wider community.
