1 U3A COMPUTER CLASSES TERM 1, 2016 LAPTOP SKILLS UPDATE FOR NON-GEEKS

2  Weekly classes are held on Wednesdays between 9:30am and 12:00pm  At Bunya House (upstairs), 1167 South Pine Road, Arana Hills.  Cost as noted below (payable at the first class).

3  U3A tutors George Kocur and Steve Hamilton will be conducting a series of 2.5-hour sessions for U3A students who have basic computer skills but who wish to get a little more out of their MS Windows laptops. You are invited to register your interest for either or both of these courses.

4  COURSE 1: INTERNET AND E-MAIL: advice and assistance with internet browsing, online security, and e-mail. This course will commence Wednesday 3 February 2016, 9:30am to 12:00pm, and run for 2 weeks.  A second session may run for 2 weeks from Wednesday 17 February, if there are sufficient numbers.  The curriculum will be flexible and you are invited to contribute to the discussion as we go along. Course cost: $10.00

5  COURSE 2: GET MORE OUT OF YOUR LAPTOP: For those who already have basic computer skills but who wish to get a little more out of their Windows laptops. This course will commence Wednesday 2 March, 9:30am to 12:00pm, and run for 4 weeks. The curriculum will be flexible and you are invited to contribute to the discussion as we go along. Basically we will cover:

6  Week 1: Your laptop and peripherals (mouse, external drives and storage, printers etc.) Also a “Show and tell” where you can showcase any new technology you have come across!  Week 2: Operating systems and installed programs, what do you have, what do you need, what don’t you need?  Week 3: Organising your files and folders and backing stuff (a technical term) up.  Week 4: Basics of word-processing, using WordPad or Microsoft Word or any other program you may use.

7  You can bring along your own laptop (power will be available). We aim to offer some guidance, share ideas, address problems, and send you away a little more tech-savvy than when you arrived!
