2 Responsible Conduct in Research (RCR) includes: The use of honest and verifiable methods in proposing, performing, and evaluating research Reporting research results with particular attention to adherence to rules, regulations, guidelines, and Following commonly accepted professional codes or norms.

3 Integrity and Science Without integrity science has little value Loss or integrity harms science – Harms individuals – Harms labs – Harms institutions Without integrity there is no trust

5 RCR Requirements “RCR is an essential component of research training” All applicants for training grants, career awards, and NRSA fellowships include in their proposal specific educational plans regarding RCR Substantial face-to-face with at least 8 contact hours

7 RCR Requirements All undergraduate and graduate students, and all postdocs employed on NSF awards receive RCR education

8 RCR Requirements NIFA Awards Training and oversight required for program directors, faculty, undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and any staff participating in the research project

9 RCR Requirements UGA policy requires RCR training for all personnel employed on NSF and USDA- NIFA research grants Some specific waivers and exemptions may be applicable On-line CITI RCR training

10 RCR Requirements One month from date on payroll for any NSF or USDA-NIFA research award to complete RCR training CITI database checked by departmental Business Officer or designee to ensure that any employee added to payroll meets RCR training requirement
