FORMATION OF FOLD MOUNTAINS Fold mountains occur at two types of plate boundary - _______ zones and _________ plate margins. At ______ zones, two plates consisting of _________ crust collide. Neither can sink as they are similar _______ so the plates buckle up to form mountain ranges. E.g. ……………. This means that Mount Everest is actually a section of folded crust that is continually rising.

At a destructive margin, _______ crust collides with a _________ plate. The denser ________ plate is __________ beneath the lighter plate. Meanwhile the lighter continental plate is COMPRESSED and UPLIFTED into a range of fold mountains. Any SEDIMENT previously deposited on that plate is compressed and folded upwards into a GEOSYNCLINE. As there is also a SUBDUCTION zone, lava rising up from the melted plate also helps to build the mountains. E.g Andes..plates??
