The power of prayer JOINT MEETING FALL 2015

SCRIPTURE “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.” –John 15:7 “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” Romans 8:26 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6 “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16

MORE SCRIPTURE “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:2 “The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.” 1 Peter 4:7

WHAT IS PRAYER? “a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God or an object of worship.”“a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God or an object of worship.” Praying is the most basic way to reinvigorate your faith and your relationship with Christ and Others (aka your lovely sisters and AGBros)

“do you pray?” Most basic way to start the conversationMost basic way to start the conversation “Do you pray?”, “Have you been praying?”, “How’s your prayer life?”“Do you pray?”, “Have you been praying?”, “How’s your prayer life?” MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION YOU CAN ASK TO STRENGTHN YOUR RELATIONSHIPS:MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION YOU CAN ASK TO STRENGTHN YOUR RELATIONSHIPS: How can I be praying for you?

PRAYER Prayer is a two way conversation believe it or not: your God IS listening. But when you pray, do you in turn listen to God? GIVING vs. RECEIVING Do you ever take the time to listen during prayer? Ask God- “How Can I Serve You Today?”

ACTIVE vs. Passive Prayer ACTUALLY PRAYING Instead of taking requests and forgetting about them, actually putting in the time to pray for them. Taking a few quiet minutes a day to celebrate your God Actually trying to listen and remain open to the Lord while praying. A few deep slow breaths in silence can help with this!

Prayer is encouraging, supportive, and REAL

So what? God uses us to do His work- are you open to receiving His impulses? Are you checking in with God? Are you supporting your brothers/sisters? Yourself? The only way to have a healthy, active relationship is to utilize ample, fruitful communication

The only wrong way to pray is not to pray at all
